MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
LEEDS SCHOOL BOARD
February 20, 2008
A regular meeting of the Leeds School Board was held February 20, 2008 at 7 p.m. Members present were Linda Young, Randy Silliman, Mark Swanson, Supt. Joel Braaten, Elementary Principal Carol Braaten and Business Manager Kathryn Benson.
Absent were Gene Larson and Melody Bracken.

The minutes of the regular meeting of January 16,
2008 were approved as written.
Mr. Braaten updated the board on the progress of the Energy Savings project. Lighting is almost complete. Air handling units have some work left to be done.
The administrators from Leeds, Minnewaukan and Maddock Schools met to review final details for a football co-op agreement. Enrollment numbers, uniforms, equipment and deadlines were discussed.
The issue was tabled until the next regular meeting.
The board read a letter of retirement from Maxine Heisler. It was moved, seconded and carried to accept the resignation at the end of the
2007/2008 school year and early retirement of Maxine Heisler. The board thanks Mrs. Heisler for
29 years of teaching science at Leeds School.
The board read a letter of retirement from Daniel Stave. It was moved, seconded and carried to accept the resignation of Daniel Stave at the end of the 2007/2008 school year. The board thanks Mr. Stave for 31 years teaching ag science at Leeds School.
It was moved, seconded and carried to approve the financial reports for January 2008 and approve all bills through February 20 for payment.

The high school principal’s report was presented:
Speech meets, girls’ basketball team placed first in district tournament, students participated in ND Close-Up at Bismarck, parent-teacher conferences on February 26, district boys’
basketball tournament at Devils Lake, and 2008/09 basketball schedules.
Mrs. Braaten presented the elementary principal’s
report: Benson County spelling bee February 23, parent-teacher conferences February 26, seat belt presentation for elementary students, students will be writing in the Devils Lake Journal kids section, Valentines for Vets, students marked 100th day collecting/counting pennies and donated to Hannah Anderson, Iditarod activities, and DIBELS and MAP testing are complete.
The board reviewed an option of the 2008/2009 school calendar. The issue was tabled until next meeting.
It was moved, seconded and carried to approve a $200 donation to the Leeds chapter of Dollars for Scholars towards the annual recertification fee.
It was moved, seconded and carried to approve hiring Eileen Herman as part-time paraprofessional.
It was moved, seconded and carried to approved hiring Laurie Galbraith as part-time paraprofessional.
It was moved, seconded and carried to authorize Emil Schoenfish, CPA to conduct the annual audit.
It was moved, seconded and carried to approve continuing the Technology Learning Co-op Agreement for 2008/2009.
The board reviewed the Lake Region District Health Unit report on the recent inspection.
Mr. Braaten presented a list of maintenance projects that may qualify for Deferred Maintenance Physical Plant Improvement Grant funds.
Mr. Braaten reported on the recent NESC meeting:
Lake Area Teachers Center, LEGO? kits, writers conference.
The superintendent’s formal evaluation will be completed and reviewed at a special meeting March 6, 2008 Mr. Braaten presented the superintendent’s
report: recalled beef, the ETC Technology Grant application was declined, football scoreboard, girls’ basketball, full-day kindergarten evaluation.
A thank you note from Audrey Herman for the gift card was read.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 7 p.m.

MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING LEEDS PUBLIC SCHOOL March 6, 2008 A special meeting of the Leeds School Board was held on March 6, 2008 at 4:15 p.m. Members present were Young, Silliman, Larson, Bracken, Supt. Braaten, and Business Manager Benson.
The board met to review the superintendent’s formal evaluation.
It was moved, seconded and carried to approve the superintendent’s formal evaluation.

Notice is hereby given that by virtue of a Judgment and Decree in foreclosure rendered and given by the District Court in and for the County of Benson, North Dakota, Northeast Judicial District, entered and docketed in the office of the Clerk of said Court on the 3rd day of March, 2008, in an action wherein Vining Oil and Gas, LLC was defendant, in which decree it was adjudged that there was due and owing to the plaintiff upon said mortgage indebtedness, the sum of Eighty-one Thousand Seven Hundred Five Dollars and 18/100 ($81,705.18) plus interest from February 19, 2008; by virtue of a writ of Special Execution to me issued out of the office of the Clerk of said Court, I will sell said property described in said Judgment and hereinafter described to the highest bidder for cash at public auction, at the front door of the Courthouse in the City of Minnewaukan, Benson County, North Dakota, on the 6th day of May, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., and on that day, to set aside the amount due to plaintiff with accrued costs as of the date of sale, or so much thereafter as the proceeds of said sale applicable thereto will satisfy.
