Cheering for the Lions

Mwkn club elects officers
The Minnewaukan Community Club held its annual dinner and meeting at the Minnewaukan Senior Citizens Community Center Sunday. Thirty-four people were present. Officers elected for the coming year are, left to right, Sherri Thompson, president; Cathy Nord, vice president; Julie Zillmer, treasurer; and Beth Huffman, secretary. Ellen Huffman retired as secretary-treasurer and Roger Odden and Mark Zillmer retired as directors. Beth Huffman and Julie Zillmer were elected directors and Cathy Nord was re-elected as a director. Other directors are Paul Streifel, Sherri Thompson, Ellen Huffman and Cathy Burkhardsmier. Drawings were held for five flower vases and two Minnewaukan Community calendars.



Learn geography
Leeds first graders Braydon Follman and Danielle Schwanke stand on countries of a world map during an activity led by Leeds High School geography students. Mr. Moser’s geography class created several activities for elementary students to learn more about world geography. The world map was designed and painted as a class project, and covered one-fourth of the gym floor.



Minnewaukan-Leeds Lions win District 8 championship
The Minnewaukan-Leeds Lions are the girls Class B District 8 champions for the 2006-2007 season. The Lions advance to region play at the Sports Center in Devils Lake Feb. 19, 20 and 22. Their first game will be against the fourth-seeded team from District 7. Their opponent was decided when District 7 region play-in games and championship took place Feb. 12 (after deadline).

On all-district team
Four members of the Minnewaukan-Leeds girls basketball team were named to the District 8 All-District team in Rolla on Saturday, Feb. 10. Left to right are Jordan Callahan, Hope Keller, Bobbi Grann and Dawn Teigen. Other all-district selections were Brittany Wirth and Kathryn Kramm of Starkweather-Munich; Stacey Nygaard, Laura Bylin and Adrienne Thomas of Adams-Edmore; Bethany Haberstroh of Rolla-Rock Lake; Alexis Murphy of St. John; Kristyn Nelson of Rolette-Wolford; and Courtney Becker of Langdon.
