Study earth science
Mr. Swanson’s fifth graders at the Leeds School are working on their Earth Science unit. In the unit they will learn about the forces that shape the Earth’s surface, landforms of the Earth, as well as the atmosphere and the oceans. The students will conduct experiments on rocks and minerals to identify different specimens. Andrew Follman and Grace Nybo study four different minerals in order to name each one.
Zayda Bergh and Madison Featherstone observe the luster and how the mineral galena breaks along flat surfaces.
Erin Jorgenson, Kaylee Lybeck and Ricky Jorgenson test and use charts to identify their minerals.
Warwick honor rolls
Warwick School Superintendent Charles Guthrie announces students who were named to the A and B honor rolls for the first quarter of school. Those on the A honor roll are sophomore Thorne Poitra, junior Shanell Paul, freshman Samone Motley and senior Craig Brown Jr.
Warwick students on the B honor roll are, left to right, freshman Autumn Redfox, junior Ryan Jetty, sophomore Justine Ross, senior Gabe Bennefeld, senior Haley Yankton, junior Chassie Guthrie and senior Rock Baer Jr.
Gold Star Mother
As part of its annual Veterans Day observance the Theodore A. Togstad Auxiliary Unit 123 of Maddock presented its Gold Star Mother, Hazel Williams (center) with a new Gold Star Mother license plate for her pickup. The plate was approved by the 2009 ND state legislature and is available to Gold Star families who have lost a child in a military conflict. Donna Rice is shown presenting the license plate to Hazel while Legion member Bradley Odden looks on.
Noltimier wins title
Brittany Noltimier of Penn was named Miss Fort Abercrombie 2010 at a pageant November 14 in the Montpelier High School gym. Seven young women from across the state competed for the titles of Miss Fort Abercrombie, Miss Peace Garden and Miss James River Valley. Each contestant was awarded a $100 scholarship and each of the three new titleholders were awarded an additional $500 scholarship. The three ladies will compete in the Miss North Dakota Pageant June 10-12 in Williston. Brittany won high score in talent, private interview, lifestyle and fitness in swim wear and on stage question. Brittany is shown executing her athletic ability in a dance routine. She is the daughter of Dwight and Miki Noltimier of Penn.
Visits school
Magician Kid Davey presented a lyceum at the Minnewaukan School on November 13. He also did tricks on stilts and gave juggling presentations, interspersed with humor.
