Sheyenne Community Christmas dinner serves 170 participants; may be annual event The spirit of giving was alive and well in the community of Sheyenne over Christmas.
Something new was started by a small group of women who got together and decided to host a turkey dinner with all the trimmings on Christmas Day free of charge to anyone in the area who could come.
Folks were asked to bring an item for the Eddy County Food Pantry, which they did by the bags full.
The brainchild of Paula Myhre and organized by her, Dianne Hanson and Bek Meredith, it truly turned into a community event with 170 meals being served.
The turkeys were baked in home ovens. The buns were baked by Liz Swenson and Alpha Nelson, the squash was donated and baked up by Stan and Marilynn Kruger along with many donated salads and platters of baked specialties.
A full crew was also on hand to set up, serve and clean up, including a creative touch by Alyson Myhre from "It’s in the Details" who decorated Ostby Hall.
Financial support for the few expenses came from a donation by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and also from Alyson Myhre and her siblings who select a charity to donate to each Christmas.
