Wildcats compete at CNDC meet in Fessenden; the boys take second
Mother Nature gave a little on Tuesday, May 6 and allowed track and field participants to compete in fairly decent weather at the CNDC outdoor meet in Fessenden.
The Benson County Wildcats boys’ team placed second with a score of 92. Rugby grabbed more than its fair share of points with 295 and Sheridan County-Anamoose trailed the Wildcats by 20 points, tallying 72. The rest of the team scoring was Harvey, 66; Wells County-New Rockford-Sheyenne 60; Northern Lights 59; Velva-Drake 51; and Garrison-Max 26.

With injuries plaguing the girls, some had to compete in events they haven’t been in for awhile. That made enough difference for a 4th place team finish with 73 points. Rugby also dominated the girls’ teams with a total of 216. Velva-Drake scored 177 and Wells County-New Rockford-Sheyenne had 94. The rest of the field followed with Harvey, 42; Sheridan County-Anamoose 32; Garrison-Max, 28; and Northern Lights, 21.

Essay winners
The Auxiliary to the Theo. A. Togstad American Legion Post 123 of Maddock recently held an essay contest. The theme of the contest was "America — Home of the Brave, Land That I Love." Senior tea held
On May 4 the GFWC Timely Topics Club of Minnewaukan hosted a senior tea in honor of the Class of 2008. The graduates and their mothers were treated to a program and reception. Receives donation
The Minnewaukan Community Club recently gave a donation of $200 to Beth Beecroft of Minnewaukan, who is raising money to go on the Sound of America tour of Europe in July. Left to right are Sherri Thompson, president of the club, Beth Beecroft and Genevieve "Genie" Smith, new treasurer of the club. Mrs. Smith replaces Julie Zillmer, who moved to Wisconsin. Beth is about halfway to her goal of raising $5,000 for the trip, which will take place in July.
