Wild turkeys visit Minnewaukan
Why did the chicken . . . er, turkeys . . . cross the road? Well, to get to West Bay Homes, of course. These wild turkeys have been hanging around the Roger Huffman farm on the outskirts of Minnewaukan for several years, feeding on spilled grain near his bins. After filling themselves with grain, the birds decided to cross the road to visit West Bay Homes.

This wasn't a social call. The turkeys came for dessert -- apples, which fell from the apple tree at West Bay Homes. Apparently life is good in Minnewaukan.

Apple Party held
Maddock's first grade students entertained their mothers at the annual Apple Party on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Activities centering around the apple theme included a rap, a poem, a skit and an art project.

FFA members attend Rugby event
Fifteen members of the Maddock A.S. Gibbens FFA Chapter attended the District FFA Leadership Conference held in Rugby October 5. The Maddock officer team, consisting of Isaac Engels, president; Michelle Olson, vice president; Kimberly Randle, secretary; Paul Rice, treasurer; Jordan Backstrom, reporter; Beau Beuhler, sentinel; and Andy Backstrom, student advisor, received a gold award and was the third high team in the parliamentary procedure contest. Receiving gold awards as officers were Michelle Olson, Paul Rice and Beau Buehler.
Anne Backstrom received first place in the demonstration contest and will participate in the state demonstration contest.
Isaac Engels was selected the District 3 FFA Ambassador and will participate in the state ambassador contest. Isaac also was the second high individual in the district extemporaneous public speaking contest, receiving a gold award and will participate in the state extemporaneous public speaking contest.
Andy Backstrom was third high individual and received a silver award in the prepared public speaking contest.
John Sears was the third high individual and received a silver award in the creed contest.
The senior quiz team, consisting of Kimberly Randle, Issac Engels, Kaidi Kenner, Jillian Maddock and Alexis Buckmier, was the second high team and will participate in the state quiz contest. Kimberly was the third high individual and Isaac the seventh high individual, receiving gold awards in the quiz contest. The Greenhand quiz team, consisting of Erin Leier, Erin Yri, Jason Smith and John Sears, was the second high team and received a gold award. Erin Leier was the third high individual in the Greenhand quiz contest.
