Bank donates
DeWayne Streyle of Leeds, right, president of United Community Bank,
presented Kaye Nelsen, representing the Leeds All School Reunion
Committee, a check in the amount of $1500 for the Leeds All School
Reunion. The money will be used for expenses related to the reunion
which will be held June 30 through July 2, 2006. According to Mrs.
Nelsen, "The reunion planning is going well and we appreciate the
generous donation and the support that United Community Bank has
given to this event."
Youngest reader?
Proud grandparents Dale and Mavis Halvorson of Minnewaukan and
Williamston, Mich. wonder if their granddaughter, Sarah Smith, one
year old, is the youngest reader of the Farmers Press. Sarah is the
daughter of Dr. Melissa and Dan Smith of Williamston.
Kids make stockings
The Leeds kindergarten class enjoyed a sewing lesson with Carol
Thompson.
Students each sewed together a Christmas stocking, on which they
also sewed a big button. They then glued their initials to the
stocking. The stockings are on display in the kindergarten room at
the Leeds School, each containing a candy cane supplied by Mrs.

Artist-in-residence
An open house was held December 9 at the Maddock School to view the
students' artwork during the two-week artist-in-residency program.
The artist was Gretchen Bederman of Mandan. This program is
supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the
Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the
National Endowment for the Arts.
Volunteer Mavis Arne is helping second graders Noah Arnold, Aaron
Ellingson, Caleb Cox, Brooks Duren and Jessica Hill.
Artist-in-residence Gretchen Bederman helps students Brooks Duren,
Ethan Karlsbraaten and Noah Arnold.
Viewing the artwork during the open house are Janet Olson, Hannah
Pierson and Barb Olson.
Christmas concert
The Maddock Elementary School presented its Christmas program on
Monday, Dec. 5 with performances at 2 and 7 p.m. Both performances
were well attended and students and adults enjoyed the Christmas
songs and merriment.
The eight kindergarten students posed as Santa's reindeer and sang
songs about reindeer. Each music class in grades 1-6 sang songs
about the different colors of Christmas as the sixth grade students
narrated a story poem called "Paint Me A Christmas." |
